H.M.S. Porcupine was one of forty-two "A" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "27 knotter".
Service
In late 1899, she was put out of commission to undergo a refit.[7]
She was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[8]
In March 1910, she was part of the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla, which was part of the Third Division, Home Fleet.
She left the Nore to exercise with five other destroyers and seven torpedo boats of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla on 18 June, 1912.[9]
Until late 1917, she was part of the Nore Local Defence Flotilla.
