H.M.S. Shark was one of thirty-six 27 Knotters, a broad meta-class of early Torpedo Boat Destroyers built for the Royal Navy in the 1890s.
Like most of the 27 knotters, she was broken up before the war, her end most likely being in 1911. Her name was very shortly thereafter taken by a new Acasta Class destroyer Shark which was launched in 1912 and which would fight at the Battle of Jutland.
Service
Shark operated as part of the Devonport Instructional Flotilla until being transferred, along with Ferret to become a tender of the gunnery training school Cambridge on 2 February 1900.[7]
She managed 28.5 knots at a full-speed trial at Plymouth on 29 June, 1900.[8]
Though his service record indicates he was in command of Teviot at the time, Commander Hubert Searle Cardale was blamed for grounding Shark 25 January, 1908. Cardale removed from command of Teviot four days later.[9]
She was one of twenty-seven T.B.Ds. of the Portsmouth Flotilla to participate in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1909.[10]
