H.M.S. Morris was one of one hundred and three destroyers of the "M" class built for the Royal Navy during the Great War.

Service

She fought at the Battle of Jutland with the Tenth Destroyer Flotilla under Lieutenant-Commander Edward S. Graham, one of six Harwich Force destroyers screening the Second Battle Cruiser Squadron.[6]

She also fought under Graham's direction at the Action of 23 July, 1916, a running night action where she, Melpomene and the Canterbury pursued a superior force of German destroyers.

Morris also participated in the Action of 21 March, 1918 under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Percy Ralph Passawer Percival. This was a night action against enemy destroyers off the Belgian Coast. Percival was awarded a bar to his D.S.O. for "[keeping] good station during the first stage of the action, opening fire with Botha, on the latter being disabled showed great initiative in continuing and pressing home the action, torpedoing and sinking an enemy torpedo boat. Showed great promptitude in taking Botha into tow and brought her safely into harbour."[7]

Reduced to C. & M. Party at Devonport, 15 October, 1919.[8]

Alterations

In 1915 or 1916, she was one of sixteen light cruisers and destroyers to trial a Wise Pressure Telegraphy System Type B for torpedo control.[18]
