H.M.S. Violent was one of twenty-five "V" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Violent joined the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla in November, 1917.[5]

She re-commissioned at Chatham on 15 October, 1920.[6]

She was re-commissioned at Rosyth on 11 March, 1924 under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Francis Ernest Wright. By March 1925, she was working with the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla of the Atlantic Fleet.[7]

She was re-commissioned with Reserve Crew on 23 November, 1925.[8]

She commissioned at the Nore on 10 March, 1927[9] and then again on 15 November, 1927 for the Maintenance Reserve at Rosyth.[10]

In 1938, her bell was one of a number ships' bells the Royal Navy offered for sale to officers and others interested. It commanded a price of between £3-£10 plus packing and shipping. Interested parties were to apply to win one at its stated price, stating any special attachment or claim they had to the item(s) applied for.[11]
