H.M.S. L 8 was one of thirty-five "L" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
In 1925, she was part of Fourth Submarine Flotilla on the China Station. A Lieutenant Thomas Eric Kirwan Donaldson is listed with her, but not expressly as being "in command".[7]
She re-commissioned on 27 March, 1925 and in August, Henry Berwick Crane was placed in command.[8]

- Lieutenant-Commander Thomas Kerr, 12 February, 1918[9] – 7 March, 1919[10]
- Lieutenant-Commander Thomas A. Powell, 7 March, 1919[11] – 1 July, 1921
- Lieutenant-Commander John H. Owen, 1 July, 1921[12] – April, 1922[13] (and three other "L class boats under C. & M. party care)
- Lieutenant in Command Patrick S. J. Ponsonby, 6 January, 1922 – 10 July, 1922 (died in Hong Kong of pneumonia)
- Lieutenant-Commander Henry B. Crane, 10 August, 1925[14]
