H.M.S. L 14 was one of thirty-five "L" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

In late 1920, she was one of two "L" class vessels in submarine reserve group "M" at Portland, tender to Lucia.[6]

In March, 1925 she, L 17 and L 18 comprised Group "M" Submarines in Reserve at Portland under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Henry N. Lake.[7]

In mid-1927, she was one of two minelaying "L" class submarines in Group "M" Submarines in Reserve at Portland.[8]

In early 1929, she and L 17 comprised Group "M" submarines in Reserve at Portsmouth under the collective command of Lieutenant-Commander Alexander Scrope Hutchinson, who'd been appointed on 15 November, 1928.[9] This group remained intact until at least mid-1931.[10] By early 1933, a third boat had joined Group M, and the officer in command had changed.[11]

In 1934, her bell, inscribed with her name and perhaps her motto, was offered for sale to naval officers and others who might be interested, at a price between £1 and £5. Interested parties were to write the Director of Stores and were urged to include any special information which might convey the importance they attach to the bell, in light of the Admiralty's understanding that such items carry great sentimental value.[12]

Captains
