H.M.S. C 1 was one of thirty-eight "C" class coastal submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
In 1918, she was prepared for use as a demolition vessel for the Zeebrugge Raid, but was kept in reserve while C 3 was expended in this mission.[5]

- Lieutenant in Command Sydney T. Winn, 1 January, 1916[11] – 25 June, 1916[12]
- Lieutenant & Commander Arthur L. Noakes, 30 June, 1916 – 6 May, 1917
- Lieutenant & Commander Aubrey C. Newbold, 6 May, 1917 – 10 May, 1918
It is unclear exactly when Regnart and Lewis were in command. They may have alternated or overlapped, or handled other submarines tender to Thames.
