Reginald Louis Crichton
Captain (retired) Reginald Louis Crichton (23 December, 1874 – 2 August, 1929) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Crichton's father was a Colonel The Honorable N. Crichton, who apparently died in January, 1912. Crichton gained ten months' time on passing out of Britannia in July 1890 and was immediately sent to join Volage for the annual manoeuvres. Following these, he was sent to Raleigh on the Cape of Good Hope Station.
Crichton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1896.[1]
On 27 February, 1905, Crichton was sent to Haslar Hospital for observation of spinal caries. This was followed by six weeks' unemployed time to permit Crichton to seek treatment at his own expense.
Crichton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1907.[2]
Crichton was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Andromache on 21 January, 1914.[3]
In March, 1915, Crichton was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser St. George.
Crichton was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Captain on 26 February, 1917, having been found unfit for all but clerical work ashore due to back problems.[4]
