John Maxwell Dalrymple Elphinstone Warren
Captain John Maxwell Dalrymple Elphinstone Warren, R.N. (22 June, 1874 – 4 June, 1939) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the son of a Reverend J. M. Maxwell, John Warren gained seven months time on passing out of Britannia in July, 1889 and receiving his first appointment to Iron Duke of the Channel Squadron in September. In July of 1890 he was moved to the Aurora.
Warren was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1895.[1]
Warren was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1906.[2]
Warren was appointed in command of the destroyer Blackwater on 15 March, 1907, and was still in command at the time of her loss in a collision.[3]
Great War
Warren was appointed in command of the battleship Albion on 20 June, 1917.[4]
Upon being superseded as Acting Captain of Albion on 4 November, 1918, Warren was appointed to duty with the Captain of Chatham Royal Dockyard, Mortimer L'Estrange Silver.[5]
Warren was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 19 May, 1922.[6]
