U.S.S. McFarland was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.
Service
She commissioned on 30 September, 1920 with Lieutenant Commander Preston B. Haines in command.
On 6 November, 1934 she collided with Template:UK-Ellis while the two destroyers engaged in a massed night attack against the Main Body of the U.S. Fleet off the coast of Mexico. Damage was slight, but both were towed to San Diego.[7]
