U.S.S. William B. Preston was one of one hundred and fifty-six Clemson Class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.
Service
The ship was commissioned on 23 August, 1920 under the temporary command of Lieutenant James B. Ryan. Commander William E. Eberle took up his command on 7 September.
