H.M.S. Magpie was one of nine gunboats of the Redbreast class completed for the Royal Navy around 1890.

Service

Commissioned on 24 September, 1889 at Devonport.[3]

Re-commissioned at Ascension on 12 May, 1896 for service on the Cape of Good Hope Station and the West Coast of Africa.[4]

In 1908, Magpie was listed in the Navy List as being at Devonport on the "list of vessels avalable for subsidiary services, hulks, and vessels for sale."[5]

In 1913, she was in Southampton working as a boom defence vessel.[6]
