Born in Stevenston, Ayr, the son of C. D. Lundholm, Works Manager.[1]
Lundholm entered the Royal Navy ranked 40th in order of merit of sixty cadets accepted in the May 1904 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia.[2]

He was dismissed the ship and reprimanded on 10 August, 1916.[4]
After being in Dominion from 16 August 1916 through 1 April, 1918, Lundholm was appointed in command of the destroyer Lydiard on 10 April, 1918.[5][6]
