H.M.S. P40 was one of forty-four "P" class patrol boats built for the Royal Navy.
Service
In June, 1917, one of eight "P" boats in the Portsmouth Escort Flotilla.[5]
Recommissioned at Portland on 20 October, 1920.[6]
Reduced to reserve on 17 July, 1926.[7]
Completed to full crew on 19 December, 1927, in early 1929 she was one of three patrol boats attached to the Portland Anti-Submarine Flotilla,[8] where she remained until at least early 1933.[9]
She transferred to Dockyard Control at Devonport on 9 November, 1936.[10]
