Captain George Bridges Lewis (20 June, 1882 – 22 May, 1941) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Lewis entered the Royal Navy with the January, 1897 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia, passing in 2nd in order of merit with 1614 marks in the competitive entrance examinations.[1]

Lewis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1902.

Lewis was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913.

Lewis was appointed in command of the depot ship Alecto on 1 March, 1914, and for duty with submarines.[2]

Lewis was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1918.

Lewis was appointed in command of the light cruiser Inconstant on 22 October, 1919.[3]

He was placed on the Retired List on the expiration of his full pay sick leave, dated 11 September 1922.

World War II

Lewis was superseded in command of the armed merchant cruiser Carnarvon Castle by Martin John Coucher de Meric on 19 May, 1940.
