Lieutenant (supplementary list) Richard Pinder Kellett (9 October, 1880 – 27 October, 1916) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
As a Probationary Sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve, Kellett trained in the battleship Irresistible in 1911. In 1913, he was in the battleship Queen, where he was strongly recommended for promotion and transfer to the Royal Navy.[1]
He served in Rifleman just before the war, and in Alarm from 4 May 1914.[2]
Kellett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant when he was transferred to the Supplementary List on 1 September, 1913.[3]
Kellett was appointed in command of the destroyer Flirt on 5 June, 1916. He was killed in action when she was lost in the Battle of Dover Strait on 26-27 October, 1916.[4][5]
Following a Court of Enquiry, the Admiralty considered that he had committed an error in judgment in stopping his ship, though part of their observation is not legible.[6]
