Completed in mid-1902, H.M.S. Sutlej was one of six Cressy class cruisers.
Service
In 1909's Gunlayer's Tests, Sutlej performed admirably, her results highlighted by the work of an R.M.A. layer of a 6-in gun who scored ten hits in ten shots in a single minute on a 8x6 foot target at 1,400 yards. This was the second-best result yet achieved, the second class protected cruiser Arrogant having once gone eleven for eleven shots in a minute.[8]
Sutlej was re-commissioned at Devonport on 8 February, 1911 for work with the Home Fleet.[9]
Sutlej paid off at Sheerness on 11 April, 1913 and her crew went to Triumph, for temporary service in the Eighth Battle Squadron while the ship took on a crew from Chatham Depot for service with the Third Fleet's Seventh Cruiser Squadron.[10]
At the outbreak of the Great War, Sutlej joined Cruiser Force F of the Channel Fleet before being sent to join Cruiser Force I.[11]
In July 1920, Sutlej was listed as one of 88 ships (most of which were destroyers) on the disposal list which were to be prepared for sale "as soonas practicable."[12]
