H.M. T.B. 4 was one of thirty-six first-class torpedo boats of the Cricket class.
Originally named H.M.S. Sandfly, her name was changed to Torpedo Boat No. 4 in 1907.
Service
In early 1910 while under the command of Lt. John Oliver Wyatt, T.B. 4 collided with the ketch Fortis. The Admiralty blamed Wyatt for the accident, and relieved him of command in April, 1910. Wyatt applied to be placed on half pay, his "nerves completely shattered." Lt. George Pritzler Green took command of the ship and remained with her until September.
T.B. 4 joined the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla of the Dover Patrol in March, 1915. She and T.B. 15 would remain in this employ to the end of the war.[7]
On 7 November 1916, two men were drowned, the body of one not being recovered.[8]
T.B. 4 suffered an accidental explosion that killed fourteen of her crew on 26 May, 1917. The cause and location of this mishap are unclear.[9]
