H.M.S. Mallard was one of twelve Forester Class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Mallard was commissioned at Devonport on 7 March, 1876 under Lieutenant and Commander Alfred W. Warry.[3]

Lieutenant and Commander Henry Briggs Lang was blamed for grounding her on 18 September 1879.

Commissioned at Devonport on 31 March, 1881 and served on the North America and West Indies Station.[4]

She was re-commissioned at Bermuda on 15 November, 1884.[5]
