Vice-Admiral Herbert Whitmore Savory, M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (15 July, 1857 – 23 February, 1918) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1882.[1]
He was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 4 on 25 May, 1886.[2]
Savory was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1895, at the age of thirty-seven years, eleven months and fifteen days.[3]
Captain
Savory was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1901.[4]
He was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Hawke in January 1903.[5] In February 1905, he assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Diadem.[6]
On the occasion of the special Mission of Prince Arthur of Connaught to Japan to invest the Emperor of Japan with the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Jackson was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) dated 20 February, 1906.[7]
He was appointed to command the battleship Prince of Wales on 12 August, 1907.[8]

Savory was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 18 January, 1911, vice Wilkinson.[9] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903 he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 December, 1911.[10]
On 12 March, 1915, Savory was officially attached to an Army Headquarter Unit.[11]
He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 9 June, 1916.[12]
