U.S.S. Detroit was one of three Montgomery Class unprotected cruisers completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

She commissioned on 20 July, 1893 with Commander Willard H. Brownson in command.

In 1900, she was serving on the North Atlantic Station.[9]
