Thomas Young Greet
Admiral Thomas Young Greet, R.N., Retired (20 February, 1854 – 25 September, 1947) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Second son of Captain William Greet, Royal Navy.
As a Midshipman, Greet was appointed to the sloop Fawn on 31 May, 1872.[1]
Greet was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 April, 1878.[2]
Greet was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1891.[3]
Captain
Greet was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1897.[4]
He was appointed in command of the coast defence monitor H.M.S. Magdala on 2 November, 1899.[5]
He served as captain of Ocean from February 1904 until September of the following year.
Greet was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 July, 1907, vice Arbuthnot.[6] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 1 August, 1908.[7]
He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1912.[8] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 9 June, 1916.[9]
Greet died at 5 Glenmore House, Richmond, Surrey, on 25 September, 1947, aged ninety-three.[10]
