H.M.S. Winchelsea was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Winchelsea joined the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla in March 1918.

She re-commissioned on 27 August, 1920.

Winchelsea was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 15 September, 1924 to serve with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean. She would remain with the flotilla through at least mid-1931.

Winchelsea was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 27 May, 1927 to serve with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.

She was re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 3 December, 1929 for continued work with the Second Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Harold William Seaman.

Paid off into Reserve at Portsmouth on 12 April, 1932.

Winchelsea was commissioned at The Nore on 28 May, 1934 for service with the Fifth Submarine Flotilla.

Commissioned at Portsmouth on 2 February, 1937 for duty with the Fifth Submarine Flotilla.
