The torpedo vessel H.M.S. Vesuvius was completed for the Royal Navy in 1874.

Design & Construction

Vesuvius was the first ship in the Royal Navy to carry Whitehead torpedoes, being equipped to carry up to ten.[6]

Machinery

With no funnel and machinery designed for a quiet delivery of a modest 9.7 knots, this vessel might have proven a stealthy attacker at night.
