H.M.S. Orion (1879)

H.M.S. Orion was laid down as Boordhi-Zaffer for the Turkish Navy but was purchased for use in the Royal Navy as one of two Belleisle Class armoured rams.

There was also a super-dreadnought named Orion and a cruiser launched in 1932 named Orion.

Service

Re-commissioned at Malta on 26 April, 1885.[6]

Re-commissioned at Singapore on 16 May, 1888.[7]

In April 1902, Orion became a depot ship for torpedo boats at Malta, initially under the command of Charles Madden.[8]

Orion was re-commissioned at Malta on 11 December, 1906 and, sometime prior to August 1912 she was renamed H.M.S. Orontes.[9] She was then converted to a store ship at Devonport and sold in 1913.
