Twelfth Submarine Flotilla (Royal Navy)
The Twelfth Submarine Flotilla was a formation of submarines of the Royal Navy.
History
January, 1917
The flotilla is established to join the Tenth Submarine Flotilla and Eleventh Submarine Flotilla in directly supporting the Grand Fleet. It starts with a single cruiser, Fearless which had been attached to the Grand Fleet and one of the new "K" class submarines.[1][2]

March, 1917
By March, three more submarines had joined, bringing the strength to a scout cruiser and four steam submarines.[3]

April, 1917
Four more submarines have joined, bringing the strength to a scout cruiser and eight steam submarines. In May, Fearless would have a Captain (S) embarked.[4]

Apart from the arrival of the Captain (S), the roster would remain unchanged until June.[5]
June, 1917
K 11 has been sent to the new Thirteenth Submarine Flotilla, a second formation of these large submarines. She is replaced by the K 5. The strength remains as a flagship cruiser and eight submarines.[6]

October, 1917
K 17 has arrived, possibly... she is also listed as being in the Thirteenth Submarine Flotilla this same month. The strength is now a flagship cruiser and eight or nine submarines.[8]

K 17 is now only listed under the Thirteenth Submarine Flotilla. The strength is a flagship cruiser and eight submarines.[9]

Royal Arthur has joined to act as a depot ship. The strength is now a flagship cruiser, a depot ship and seven submarines.[15]

March, 1919
A post-war reorganization sees the flotilla re-designated, with an unaltered roster, as the First Submarine Flotilla. The Twelfth Flotilla is disestablished.[17]
