Admiral Charles Grey Robinson, C.V.O., Royal Navy (12 November, 1850 – 14 February, 1934) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

The son of Reverend Thomas Robinson, vicar of Chart Sutton, Kent.[1]

In December, 1864, Robinson was ranked third out of thirty-six candidates accepted as first-class Naval Cadets, in order of merit.[2]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 23 September, 1873.[3] He was appointed to Vernon on 24 October, 1882 as a torpedo Lieutenant.[4]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1884.[5]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1890.[6]

Robinson served as Flag Captain to Rear-Admiral Albert H. Markham in the Mediterranean Fleet from 1892 to 1894.

He was appointed to command the first class protected cruiser Terrible on 24 March, 1898.[7]

Appointed Captain of H.M.S. Vernon on 2 October, 1899.[8]

Robinson was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII on 11 August, 1901, vice MacLeod.[9]

Robinson was appointed to H.M.S. Tamar as Commodore, Second Class as Naval Officer in Charge at Hong Kong, dated 10 February, 1902.[10]

Robinson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 8 December, 1903, vice Moore.[11]

On 3 January, 1905, Robinson was appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding the Devonport Reserve Division.[12]

On the occasion of the King's inspection of the Home Fleet he was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 3 August, 1907.[13] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 10 October, vice Moore.[14]

He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 27 August, 1911, vice Drury.[15] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 18 September.[16]
