Captain (retired) Kenneth Noel Humphreys, C.B. (10 October, 1881 – 30 October, 1955) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of N. A. Humphreys, Esq., employed in the Civil Service, was born in Kingston on Thames.[1]

Upon passing out of Britannia in July, 1897, Humphreys commenced his first naval appointment, which was a full three and a half years in the armoured cruiser Undaunted on the China Station.[2]

Humphreys was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1903.[3]

Though he'd received good evaluations in 1906 from Cdr. Davy of H.M.S. Forward, in December, 1907 he was evaluated by Captain Kemp of H.M.S. Europa as being "absent-minded and lacks experience as navigator. Neither zealous or reliable."[4]

Humphreys was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1911.[5]

Humphreys was appointed to Conqueror as navigating officer on 15 September, 1913 and served in her through the Great War, including at the Battle of Jutland.[6]

Humphreys was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 October, 1915.[7]

Humphreys was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 26 October, 1927.[8]
