Admiral Cyril Everard Tower, D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (3 December, 1861 – 20 January, 1929) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Cyril Everard Tower was born on 3 December, 1861, the third son of Canon Charles Tower, rector of Chilmark, Wiltshire. He was educated at Lancing College, before joining the Royal Navy as a Naval Cadet in July, 1874.

Tower was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1884.[1]

Tower was promoted to the rank of Commander on 22 June, 1897.[2]

Captain

Tower was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1904.[3]

He was appointed in command of the Eclipse on 11 July, 1905.[4]

Tower was appointed Captain of the Dockyard, Deputy Superintendent and King's Harbour Master, Portsmouth on 1 February, 1912.[5] On 2 June, 1915, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral, vice Grant-Dalton,[6] and, in accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 28 June.[7] He was relieved by Captain Edward H. Moubray on 29 June, 1916.[8]

On 1 January, 1918, he was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order.[9] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 2 November, 1919,[10] and to Admiral on 1 August, 1924.[11]
