Lieutenant R.N.R. (temporary) Donald MacDonald, ( – 10 November, 1918) served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and the Royal Naval Reserve. There was also a Gunner named Donald MacDonald in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
MacDonald was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 7 January, 1918.[1]
Having transferred to the R.N.R. from the R.N.V.R. just under two weeks before, MacDonald died when his first and only command, the paddle minesweeper Ascot was lost to a mine on 10 November, 1918 – the last Royal Navy ship to be lost to direct enemy action in the war.[2]
