Seth Mitchell Ackley (18 October, 1845 – 7 February, 1908) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Massachusetts, Ackley was appointed to the Naval Academy from the same state as a member of the Class of 1866.[1] In 1863, while still attending the Academy, he participated in a search for a Confederate raider while aboard Marion.[2]
Ackley was promoted to the rank of Ensign on 12 March, 1868. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 March, 1870.[3]
In 1875 Ackley served as Executive Officer of the store-ship Onward.
Ackley spent many years with the Coast Survey, including his first command, the schooner Eagre from 1878 to 1880.[4]
Ackley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 30 June, 1887.[5]
Ackley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 4 May 1896.[6]
