Parr was specially promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 November, 1876 for arctic services.[3]

On 24 August, 1880, Parr was appointed Commander of the frigate Inconstant, soon to become flag ship of the Detached Squadron for Particular Service under Rear-Admiral The Earl of Clanwilliam.[4]

Parr was promoted to the rank of Captain on 21 June, 1887.[5]

He was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Melpomene on 17 June, 1890.[6]

Parr was appointed command of the battleship battleship Prince George on 26 November, 1896.[7]

He was reappointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp, to King Edward VII, on 25 February, 1901.[8]

Flag Rank

On 24 May, 1901, he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral, vice Wilson.[9] Admiral Sir John Fisher, Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean, recommended Parr as Admiral Superintendent of Malta Dockyard in succession to Burges Watson.[10]

Parr was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 5 July, 1905, vice Jackson.[11] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, dated 8 March, 1906.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 2 December, 1908.[13]
