Admiral Godfrey Harry Brydges Mundy, C.B., D.S.O., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (11 August, 1860 – 7 October, 1928) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Mundy was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 29 June, 1883.[1]
He was appointed to the Royal Adelaide as Flag Lieutenant to Sir Augustus Phillimore, Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth, on 5 March, 1885.[2]
Mundy was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1896.[3]
Captain
Mundy was promoted to the rank of Captain on 26 June, 1902.[4]
On the occasion of the King's visit to Austria he was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 9 October, 1903.[5]
On 5 December, 1908, he was appointed Captain Superintendent of Pembroke Dockyard.[6]
Flag Rank
Mundy was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 April, 1912, vice Shortland.[7] He was appointed Admiral Superintendent of Devonport Dockyard on 11 December, 1913, in succession to Rear-Admiral Robert H. S. Stokes.[8]
Mundy was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1917.[9] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 19 August, 1917, vice Slade,[10] and was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 19 September.[11] His last service was as Vice-Admiral in the North Atlantic Convoy from 1917 to 1918. He was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 1 January, 1919.[12] He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 7 October, 1920.[13]
