H.M.S. Tiverton was one of one hundred and fourteen Hunt Class minesweepers completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Tiverton paid off on 25 October, 1919.[6]
In January, 1921, she was at Southampton, one of twenty-eight paid off minesweepers there.[7]
She was commissioned on 22 March, 1927. From at least mid-1927 to at least mid-1931, she was working with the First Minesweeping Flotilla.[8][9]
She was transferred to Dockyard Control at The Nore on 5 February, 1937.[10]
Captains
- Lieutenant R.N.R. in Command Forbes S. Duncan, 7 January, 1919[11] – mid-1919 (temporary)
- Lieutenant R.N.R. in Command Frederick Woodhead, 1 July, 1919[12]
- Lieutenant-Commander Lawrence R. Higgins, 10 July, 1924[13] (temporary, for Reserve Fleet Exercises)
- Lieutenant-Commander Henry F. M. Peto, 10 July, 1924[14] – 22 August, 1924[15]
- Lieutenant-Commander George Griffiths, 22 March, 1927[16] – late 1927[Inference]
- Lieutenant-Commander Norman B. Weir, 31 December, 1927 – 16 January, 1928
- Lieutenant-Commander William N. Kingdon, 16 January, 1928[17] – 1 January, 1930
- Lieutenant-Commander Leonard A. W. Johnson, 1 January, 1930[18] – January, 1932
- Lieutenant-Commander Eric L. Woodhall, 7 January, 1932[19]
The conflict between Peto and Higgins is noted. I would suspect that the appointment was changed to Peto from Higgins.
