Rear-Admiral George Herbert Knowles, D.S.O. (20 November, 1881 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1903.[1]
Knowles was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Racehorse on 24 January, 1910.[2]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1911.[3]
Great War
Knowles was appointed in command of the destroyer Lydiard on 27 October, 1914.[4]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[5]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer leader Grenville on 22 March, 1918.[6]
Post-War
Knowles was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Douglas on 9 July, 1920.[7]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1921.[8]
In May, 1924, Knowles was appointed in command of the light cruiser Capetown.
In 1932, an A.B. was killed in a boat handling accident aboard Cornwall. Knowles was found to have been negligent in part.[9]
Knowles was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 10 October, 1933 and was placed on the Retired List the following day.[10]
