Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. William Samuel Croucher, D.S.C. ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Temporary Sub-Lieutenant R.N.R. on 23 March, 1915.[1]

Appointed in command of the trawler Swan on 12 April, 1915. Later command of unnamed trawlers in Auxiliary Patrol Area I followed in later 1915 and early 1916.[2]

Croucher was promoted to the rank of Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. on 23 July, 1915. In March 1916 he was recommended by V/A Tupper for good service in his command appointments. In May he was hospitalised with bronchitis and tuberculosis, but he was fit by 28 July 1916.[3]

On 18 September 1916 he was appointed to Wallington for command of trawlers in Auxiliary Patrol Area IX.[4]

Croucher was awarded a D.S.C. for action against enemy submarines, but in February 1919 Captain Hornill rated the Lieutenant as "below av. ability not reliable."[5]
