H.M.S. Bideford was one of eight Shoreham Class sloops completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Bideford was placed under the command of Cdr. [[Percy Frank Pilkington Wood] on 16 October 1931 for trials. Upon their completion, he commissioned her for service. Due at Aden on 6 January, 1932, he was to proceed to Muscat to relieve the sloop Hastings, exchanging ships with her commander, D. S. McGrath. [4]
She was commissioned at Chatham on 15 November, 1932 for service in the Persian Gulf.[5]
Re-commissioned on 17 November 1936.[6]
Re-commissioned at Malta on 12 December, 1938 for service in the Persian Gulf.[7]
