Admiral (retired) David Thomas Norris, C.B., C.M.G., R.N. (27 October, 1875 – 19 July, 1937) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Clifton, Norris named H. N. Abbot, Esq. as his guardian upon entering the Royal Navy in July 1889.

Norris was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 November, 1896.[1]

Norris married in 1907 and was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1907, having proven himself an "excellent lecturer", according to Captain Slade after participating in a War Course.[2]

In 1909, Norris was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for saving the life of Stoker A. E. Williams, who had fallen overboard.[3][4]

Norris was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1914.[5]

Norris was appointed in command of the battleship Valiant in 1924.[6]

Norris was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 23 October, 1924.[7]

Norris was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 6 October, 1929 and placed on the Retired List the next day.[8]

Norris was promoted to the rank of Admiral (retired) on 10 October, 1933.[9]
