Captain William Howard Dennis Friedberger, D.S.O. (16 July, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Friedberger entered the Royal Navy with the May 1909 intake term at the Training Establishment. He passed out with sixty-one other midshipmen in April, 1913 ranked second in order of merit on his examinations.[1]
Friedberger was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1917.
Friedberger was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1925.
Friedberger was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.
World War II
Friedberger was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1939.
In 1941-42, he was evaluated as "not really a leader, but rather a driver" who was in exceptional physical condition.
He supervised negotiations in Washington, where he "did well despite U.S. Navy obstructions."
