Edward Oliver Gladstone

Captain Edward Oliver Gladstone (28 April, 1875 – 23 December, 1925) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

In February 1897, Gladstone was mentioned in despatches for the Benin Expedition and was specially promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 25 May, 1897 for services in same.

Gladstone was appointed in command of the "D" Class destroyer Desperate on 28 September 1901 but was lent to T.B. 93 on 14 October, 1901.

By 1902, he was being noted as an "excellent destroyer captain."

Gladstone was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1908.

Gladstone was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Adventure on 2 April, 1914.

Great War

Gladstone was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1915.

On 30 January, 1917, he was admitted to a hospital ship for three days before being discharged to duty.

Gladstone was placed on the Retired List on 2 November, 1922. He died at age 50 at a nursing home in London on 23 December, 1925 following surgery.
