Vice-Admiral Alfred Francis Blakeney Carpenter, V.C. (17 September, 1881 – 27 December, 1955) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

He was promoted to Lieutenant on 30 June, 1903.[1]

He was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1911.[2] He was promoted to Commander on 30 June, 1915.[3]

Carpenter commanded the second class protected cruiser Vindictive for the raid on Zeebrugge, and was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous gallantry.

He was promoted to Captain on 23 April, 1918.[4]

In April 1921, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Carysfort.

In May 1928, he assumed command of the battleship Marlborough.

He was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 3 August, 1929.[5]

He was promoted to Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1934.[6]
