Admiral Edmund John Church, Royal Navy, Retired (14 February, 1842 – 18 April, 1904) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Church was one of three officers later to achieve high rank in the Navy to be awarded the India 1857-1858 campaign medal with the "Relief of Lucknow" clasp, the other two being Lord Walter Kerr and Nowell Salmon.

He was promoted to the rank of Captain with seniority of 9 January, 1878.[1]

Church was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to Queen Victoria dated 20 May, 1891, vice Bedford.[2]

Church was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1893.[3] He was appointed Admiral Superintendent of Devonport Dockyard on 7 August, 1894.[4]

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 22 February, 1870, Church was placed on the Retired List on 11 July, 1899.[5] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 15 March, 1904.[6]
