Rear-Admiral Roger Mowbray Bellairs, C.B., C.M.G., Royal Navy (9 August, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Twickenham,[1] the son of army officer (later Lt. Gen.) Sir William Bellairs, K.C.M.G., C.B..[2]
Bellairs was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 May, 1904.[3]
He was married on 19 July, 1909 to Veronica Beatrice Wavell.[4]
Bellairs was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 May, 1912.[5]
Bellairs was appointed to Iron Duke in August, 1913 to serve as her torpedo officer and serving on Jellicoe's staff for War Staff duties.
Bellairs was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[6]
He was in Iron Duke at the Battle of Jutland and remained in her until being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth on 16 February, 1917, remaining there until 1919, still offering support for his new Commander in Chief's War Staff.[7]
Post-War
Bellairs was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1920.[8]
Bellairs was appointed in command of the cruiser Effingham in October, 1925.
Bellairs was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 19 October, 1932 and placed on the Retired List the following day in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[9]
