H.M. T.B. 109 (1902) | |
---|---|
Builder: | John I. Thornycroft & Company[1] |
Launched: | 1902[2] |
Broken up: | 1919-20[3] |
H.M. T.B. 109 was one of five first-class torpedo boats of the her class.
Service
T.B. 109 passed her official four-hour steam trial at the Maplins on 5 February, 1903, averaging 25.213 knots.[4]
Captains
Dates of appointment are provided when known.
- Lieutenant & Commander Alan M. Yeats-Brown, 21 July, 1903[5] – 20 August, 1903[6] (for Annual Manoeuvres of 1903)
- Lieutenant & Commander Geoffrey S. F. Nash, 17 November, 1903[7][8] – 5 December, 1905[9] (loaned out from this for annual manoeuvres in 1904)
- Lieutenant in Command William F. Sells, 14 July, 1904[10] (for Annual Manoeuvres of 1904)
- Lieutenant in Command Melvill W. Ward, 5 December, 1905[11] – 9 February, 1906[12]
- Lieutenant & Commander Frederick C. Corbyn, 4 February, 1906[13] – 12 March, 1907[14]
- Lieutenant & Commander Austin C. Ackland, 12 March, 1907[15][16] – 25 January, 1909[17]
- Lieutenant & Commander Henry P. Wilson, 1 February, 1909[18] – 27 October, 1910 (ill in March-May, 1910)
- Lieutenant & Commander Henry D. Simonds, 7 March, 1910 – May, 1910 (temporary, during Wilson's illness)
- Lieutenant & Commander Alfred G. Peace, 27 October, 1910[19][20] – 8 March, 1912[21]
- Lieutenant & Commander George E. Matthews, 18 March, 1912[22] – 22 January, 1914
- Lieutenant & Commander Philip H. Irwin, 22 January, 1914[23] – March, 1914[Inference] (lent from Alexandra)
- Lieutenant in Command William E. B. Magee, 18 March, 1914[24][25] – 28 June, 1915[26]
- Lieutenant-Commander (Emergency List) Conyngham C. Dennison, 28 June, 1915[27][28] – 22 September, 1915[29]
- Lieutenant & Commander Lambert N. B. Morgan, 22 September, 1915 – 29 February, 1916
- Lieutenant R.N.R. in Command Stanley W. Moughtin, 29 February, 1916[30][31] – 22 August, 1917[32]
- Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Charles V. Price, 17 August, 1917[33][34] – 25 February, 1919 (end date may be April, 1918)
The Times reported that Arthur Kipling Waistell commanded this boat and Alan Montagu Yeats-Brown commanded T.B. 82 in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1903,[35] but their service records state it the other way around, and Yeats-Brown has an inspection report for T.B. 109. I've decided the service records are more reliable in this instance.
