Commander Cecil Eustace Rooke, R.N. (15 May, 1872 – 11 October, 1909) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Rooke was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1893.
On 1 February, 1894, Rooke was appointed to the gunboat Rattler on the China Station. He was loaned to command the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 20 in May for night torpedo attack exercises conducted near Hong Kong. She acted as a guard boat in the port defence scenario.[1]
Rooke was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1906.
On 8 January, 1907, Rooke was invalided and sent to London with debility, being due 26 January.
Rooke was admitted to Haslar Hospital on 27 February, 1908. He was certified a "dangerous lunatic" and placed on the Retired List as unfit on 28 February, 1908. He was admitted to Yarmouth Hospital on 6 March.
Rooke died of "general paralysis of the insane" on 11 October, 1909.
