Admiral SIR Charles Edward Kennedy-Purvis, K.C.B., G.B.E., Royal Navy (2 May, 1884 – 26 May, 1946) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Clifton, Gloucester on 2 May, 1884.
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1904.[1] He was appointed to command T.B. 66 in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1904,[2] but in the event served in her subordinate to Lieutenant & Commander Geoffrey Stewart Fleetwood Nash.[3]
On 14 March, 1908, he married Ethel May Conquest at Christ Church in Woburn Square, London.[4]
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1912. From March, 1912 through June 1917, he remained in Vernon for W/T duties and to serve as an instructor in the developing technology.[5]
The Great War
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915. Still at Vernon, he continued his work on the War Staff and in instruction until 17 January, 1918 when he was appointed to Southampton as executive officer, where he would serve out the remained of the war.[6]
Post-War
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1921.[7]
Kennedy-Purvis was appointed in command of the light cruiser Concord in July, 1925.
He was appointed in command of the battlecruiser Glorious in March, 1931. A collision between the aircraft carrier and S.S. Florida on 1 April was laid at the feet of Kennedy-Purvis, but the number of aircraft operating at the time were taken as such an extenuating circumstance that no action was taken against him.[8]

Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 30 September, 1933.[9]
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 28 June, 1937.[10]
Kennedy-Purvis was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 15 February, 1942.[11]
