Commander (retired) Bertram Owen Frederick Phibbs, R.N. (2 January, 1875 – 19 February, 1952) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Phibbs was born in Brighton.

Phibbs was specially promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 25 May, 1897 for his service on the Benin Expedition.

Phibbs was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 25 May, 1905.

In May 1907, an A.B. named Henry Gee[?] drowned after coaling Syren. Phibbs was blamed for an error in judgment in his failure to replace a stanchion after coaling, and for reversing engines before the man was clear of the stern.

In 1909 or so, he was cautioned for drinking to excess. His other evaluations were positive.
