Rear-Admiral (retired) William Mitchell Moir, C.B.E. (12 December, 1873 – 7 March, 1942) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Moir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 DEcember, 1894.
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1907.
As a Commander, Moir was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Dido, then serving as depot ship in the Third Destroyer Flotilla, on 16 January, 1914; he would remain in this position through the end of the war.[1]
Moir was promoted the the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1915.[2]
Moir left Dido only in early 1919 and took up work as Captain in charge of ships for disposal at the Nore.
Moir was placed on the Retired List at his own request in July 1922 and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (retired) on 8 July, 1926.
