Commander (retired) Reginald Wastell English, D.S.O., R.N. (12 April, 1894 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the son of timber merchant Marcus Valentine English, Esq..
English was made a Midshipman on 15 September, 1911.[1]
English was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1916.[2]
On 26 April, 1917, he was appointed to Christopher, which was operating with the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla and conducting extensive anti-submarine patrols and escorting convoys.[3]
On 19 June, 1918, Captain Lawrence F. N. Ommanney was one of several man removed from Christopher to hospital during a virulent outbreak that prompted a visit from a Fleet Surgeon from Apollo. English assumed command in his absence,[4] which lasted until 10 August.[5]
He departed Christopher on 8 November[6] and was appointed in command of Beagle on 29 Nov, 1918.[7]
Post-War
In July of 1920, English requested that he be placed on the Retired List at a later date. This date proved to be 10 August, 1920.
English was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 15 February, 1924.
English was promoted to the rank of Commander (retired) on 12 January, 1934.
