H.M.S. Leander was completed in 1885 as one of four second class protected cruisers of the Leander class, but she served as a depot ship in the Great War.

Service

In June 1904 she completed conversion to a depot ship for destroyers.[6] In mid-1913, she was acting as depot ship for the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla, and was still there when the war started.
